Kobushi-Do Fall Fun Day Saturday, September 29th 11:00am to 5:00pm Please see the schedule page for more information.

In the videos below are a progression through a typical children's Kobushi-Do class. There's also a few extra videos of game time from another class. We generally start out with a brief warm up lasting 5 minutes and then we give the students a break. We then teach self defense techniques for about 45 minutes with a break in the middle. After the students train in self defense we have a 10 minute game time during the last part of the class.

We generally have games that are based in martial art skill. For example, dodgeball (evaision), walking the bo (balance), play boxing (hand and eye cordination) and many more games. Our game time is a little reward for the students for their attention during the self defense part of the class.

We also teach a list of words of wisdom. The student learns one of the words of wisdom for each rank. Our first word of wisdom on the list is "Protect life and avoid violence when ever possible" Our students learn self defense and how to be a good person. Our students also gain self confidence, self esteem and learn respect and self respect through the martial arts disciple. They also learn what honesty, integrity and honor are.

Kobushi-Do is not a sport. There's no going out of town for tounaments every weekend with our school. Our students are not trying to compete for trophies. Our focus is to teach them how to avoid being grabbed, abducted, or worse killed. We teach children how to deal with a bully at school, how to defend themselves against a child preditor and how to save their life or a life of another.

We're not against the sport martial arts styles. We just don't teach those styles of martial arts in our school.

There's no Ninja Turtle's or Power Ranger's take my doh programs with us. We try to be affordable and practical. We teach in a fun and realistic way with out all the hard to learn Kata's. We teach in a natural free flow-free style way.

To join there will be a one time enrollment fee of $35.00 and then a $10.00 fee per month for three to four black belt club classes per month. black belt club classes will be held on the first class of the week from 5:30pm to 6:00pm. The BBC classes will focus on advanced techniques, flow/feeling/sensitivity drills, knife and gun defenses and possibly training for a demo team. We will also be training higher ranks for assistant junior instructor. There will be an embroidered black belt purchased for the student and displayed in the dojo on a rack for him or her to work toward.
To enroll in the BBC please see Shihan Murdock
Attention Students: Effective March 26, 2007, due to the recent interest in traditional Bujinkan Ninjutsu from some of our Kobushi-Do students that have been training in Bujinkan Ninjutsu at other locations, we have decided to allow children to train in our traditional Bujinkan Ninutsu class at REBD. We will be allowing children ages 9 and up to join and train in the Bujinkan Ninjutsu class. Children ages 9 through 13 must have written permission from their parents to train in Ninjutsu. The cost will be an additional $25.00 for Kobushi-Do members.

We ask the Kobushi-Do students who train in traditional Bujinkan Ninjutsu to refrain from practicing the "traditional" Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, Ninjutsu techniques in the Kobushi-Do class. This is why we're opening the Bujinkan Ninjutsu class to children so they may also train in traditional Bujinkan Ninjutsu in addition to Kobushi-Do. The Ninjutsu in Kobushi-Do has been changed and modified to fit with the other four arts that make up the Kobushi-Do style and may not be the same as the traditional techniques.
Thanks, Shihan Mark Murdock

Kobushi-Do received an award from the World Head of Family Sokeship Council. It is now recognized internationally. SSMA received "Kobushi-Do, Best Children's Martial Art School of The Year" We are very honored to recieve this award.

Kobushi-Do Jujitsu teaches self respect, self discipline, self esteem, self control, confidence building and self defense training. Students are taught to protect life and to avoid violence whenever possible.

Techniques taught at our school are practiced at a slow to moderate speed and in light to medium contact. This is for all beginner children. We practice slower and more gentle with medium to light force. Higher ranking Kobushi-Do Jujitsu students will use more speed and contact, "with control" as they advance in skill and belt rank. Safety will always be our most important aspect during our training.
The techniques involve control style joint locks, escapes from various grabs and holds, throws and takedowns, basic weapons training at the start and then progressing into intermeadiate and then advanced weapons as the student gains skill and belt rank. Advanced-ranking Kobushi-Do Jujitsu students "Brown belt and above" learn a "flow" of technique, weapons, and counters to modern day attacks that can happen in shools systems, such as multiple attackers, gun and knife assaults.
Kobushi-Do classes are held at Southern School of Martial Arts located at McGee's Crossroads, NC.(Exit 319/I-40 and Hyw. 210)

Kobushi-Do is a martial arts program for children, ages 6 to 15. Kobushi-Do was created in October of 2001 and was designed from Manabi-Masho Ju-Jitsu, Aikido, Judo and selected techniques of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) and selected tecniques from Karate. It has been broken down into an very easy and fun to learn format. Kobushi-Do teaches children self-defense, physical fitness, respect/self respect, self conidence and self esteem, discipline, honesty/integrity and fairness/kindness toward others, as well as many other life lessons in a fun and entertaining environment. One of our most important words of wisdom that we teach is "Protect life and avoid violence whenever possible". Students learn valuable life and self defense lessons while having fun using games of skill and various fun dojo contests.

There are so many child abductions and murders happening now. We teach children how to escape grabs and how to avoid dangerous situations. Todays children need to have at least a basic knowledge of self defense. Kobushi-Do is a real martial art that is recognized internationally and children can earn a belt rank, all the way to black belt, if they desire. We try to keep the tuition rates lower than most of the other martial arts schools in the Wake and Johnston county areas. Our goal is to teach children how to stay alive out there in the dangerous world, not to get rich teaching martial arts.

Southern School of Martial Arts recognizes all belt ranking from other styles or martial arts school. They're welcome to train at our school.
We will recognize their ranks no matter what art or school they trained in. They earned that rank and we feel that they should be able to wear that rank for all their hard work in that art. They will be permitted to wear that rank while training at our school.
They will keep their rank from their original art. They will add Kobushi-Do ranks in addition and separate from their other rank as they progress.
